Unavowed is rather unusual representative of adventure genre as it offers many alternatives and non-linear ways of the playthrough.

After completing events in Central Park, you'll reawaken in the Unavowed Headquarters, where you'll want to talk to everyone. Then agree to call a team meeting, and during the discussion you'll discover your next investigation will take you a location intimately tied to the player character origin.

• If you began the game as an Actor, your next destination will be the Under the Bricks Theater.
• If you began the game as a Police Officer, your next destination will be Club Eternox.
• If you began the game as an Bartender, your next destination will be Sammy's Club.

Where it all began

Once your team in on the subway, pick any two teammates and choose the relevant destination (it'll be the only one available to you at the moment).

Examine the portal on the ground, then the Notes nearby. After the discussion with your teammates, the leave the origin location to return to the subway.

Once on the subway, you now have a choice of three new destinations to investigate:

• Bowling Green Station (Wall Street)
• Canal Street (Chinatown)
• Hoyt-Schermerhorn Streets Station (Brooklyn).

The choice as to which location you wish to investigate next is yours, but you must eventually complete all three to continue the story.

You are now able to select from all available teammates for the duration of the game. As before, you must bring two teammates with you for every investigation, no more, no less. One of these teammates must always be either Mandana or Eli.

Because of how well designed the game is, there is never a 'wrong' team composition to bring for all investigations.

However, there are still certain investigation-related Achievements that can only be unlocked by bringing a certain teammate along with you.

This is important to note, because not only are you unable to leave an area once you enter it, you will not be able to return to it once you have successfully completed the investigation there!

It is well worth noting that there are ghosts tied the Brooklyn and Wall Street investigations that only Logan can communicate with, and dispersing them will unlock Achievements!

Chinatown

Choose Canal Street to arrive in Lower Manhattan's Chinatown. If you click into the background, you'll experience a vision at the entrance of the now-shuttered Dragon Tree Restaurant. The door is locked for now.

All zombies must die poster. If you brought Eli, simply Use him on the third paper lantern from the left hanging over the entrance.

Examine the (now fallen) paper lantern for a lottery ticket.

If you brought Mandana, you can also Use her on the jade dragon pillar near the hanging lantern instead.

She will retrieve a lottery ticket from inside the lantern for you.

From here you can head left along Mott Street to arrive outside the Manhattan Detention Complex. Enter via the doors to the left of the screen and speak with the on-duty security guard (Officer Sun Chan) to learn a little more about what happened at the Dragon Tree Restaurant.

Exit the complex and this time head right to arrive at the Smiling Fruit Grocery. Speak with the NPC running the store, Doug Wang, over a number of subjects including what happened at the Dragon Tree Restaurant. You should learn about an NPC named Kevin Huang.

Examine the poster on the grocery's wall for a list of recent winning lottery numbers.

If you grabbed the lottery ticket from outside the Dragon Tree Restaurant earlier, you can Use the ticket on Doug to learn something very interesting about who originally bought it.

More importantly, Use this ticket on the poster of winning lottery numbers at the back of the grocery for an entertaining scene.

Speak to Doug again about the lottery ticket.

Then head right from the grocery to arrive outside another restaurant.

Examine the winning lottery ticket framed near the entrance. Ask the cook (Wing Lu) and customer (Detective Sam Durkin) here about the Dragon Tree Restaurant, Kevin and the winning lottery ticket.

If you head right, you'll return to the Canal Street subway station. Instead, return to the Manhattan Detention Complex and ask the Officer Chan about speaking with Kevin.

Go back to detective Durkin at Wing's restaurant near the station and attempt to request an arrangement to speak with Kevin inside the detention center.

If you grabbed the lottery ticket from outside the Dragon Tree Restaurant, learned who bought it AND confirmed with Doug that it was a winning ticket, you can press Durkin about it. He will grant you access to speak with Kevin.

Once you have permission, return to detention center and ask the security guard to speak to Kevin. After you meeting with Kevin with over, request a copy of some his personal items from Officer Chan. You should receive a note with some clues as well as a Smiling Fruit Grocery receipt.

Dragon Tree Restaurant

Return to the Dragon Tree Restaurant. Refer to Kevin's note with clues that you received earlier. What you need to do examine the pearl and jade dragon pillars on either side of the entrance, and interact with the 'teeth' in the correct order (you have to exit the 'close-up' screen manually after interacting with the first dragon pillar, whichever one you choose).

This should unlock the entrance to the Dragon Tree Restaurant! Head inside, and grab the empty teacup off the nearby table.

Enter the kitchen via the swinging doors to the far right, and grab the spool of red ribbon from the racks.

Go through the door to the right to enter the living room of the Huang residence.

Once inside the living room, Use the Smiling Fruit Grocery receipt on the financial statement on the nearby wall.

Enter the bedroom via the door near the stairs. Examine the drawers for a note from Kevin's dad. Return to the living room and head up to the stairs to reach the rooftop.

Enter the greenhouse. Examine the parchment on the wall. Then interact with the small window with a latch to open it.

Leave the residence and head all the way back to Chinatown. Return to the Smiling Fruit Grocery and press Doug on the herb Kevin purchased from him. If you have the combined receipt and credit card statement from earlier, you'll receive two doses of hibiscus rue from Doug.

Now return to Wing's restaurant and ask her about why her name is listed on the parchment you saw in the rooftop greenhouse earlier. You'll learn about the 'Ba Jiao Gui'.

Ba Jiao Gui Ritual

Return to the Dragon Tree Restaurant. Go back up to the Huang residences. Examine the massive book in the living room to learn more about the Ba Jiao Gui spirit.

Use the empty teacup on the tea kettle in the Dragon Tree Restaurant kitchen to fill it with cold water.

If you brought Eli with you, simply Use the teacup on him to receive a teacup of hot water.

Otherwise, you'll have return to Wing at her restaurant in Chinatown and simply ask her for some hot water.

Enter the greenhouse on the rooftop. Use the spool of red ribbon the large banana tree in the center of the room.

Open the small window with a latch on the side of the greenhouse if you haven't already done so.

Interact with the end of the ribbon spool (now tied to the tree) to 'grab' it, then interact with the open window to feed the ribbon out of the greenhouse.

Leave the greenhouse, and interact with the end of the ribbon spool resting on the rooftop ledge to grab it once more.

'Interact' with the area leading off the side of the roof to drop the end of the ribbon spool down onto the open balcony of the bedroom on the floor below.

Head back inside the Huang residence and enter the bedroom.

Grab the end of the ribbon spool off the floor, then interact with the bed.

Now Use the hibiscus rue on the teacup of hot water in your Inventory to receive a cup of hibiscus rue tea.

When you are ready, interact with the bed.

Head left onto the open balcony. After your conversation with the void creature, you'll automatically meet a familiar face. Talk to her to get updated on the situation here.

You'll also recruit this friend as a temporary teammate, complete with the ability to Use her on objects in the spirit realm! That's important, because you cannot interact with most objects in the realm of the dead yourself, including all doors!

There is an Achievement tied to your new teammate! To unlock this later on, make sure to avoid Interacting with any objects other than shiny ones while you are in the spirit realm. Instead, Use your new teammate on them instead!

Your new friend here counts as a teammate, which means she offers a generic hint topic anytime you speak with her like all your other teammates.

You'll want to avoid choosing this dialogue topic if you are going for the 'no hints from teammates' Achievement!

Use your new friend on the bedroom door to return to the living room. Head back down into the kitchen.

Interact with the large metal pot on the stove to return to the world of the living!

For the duration of this investigation, you have the ability to jump between the realms of the living and the dead by Interacting with metallic objects with reflective surfaces.

You'll note that these shiny objects are the only things you will be able to Interact with while in the spirit realm, and will not prevent you from unlocking the aforementioned Achievement involving your temporary teammate.

You'll be accompanied by Logan during this segment of the mission.

Return to the Manhattan Detention Complex. Interact with the shiny convex mirror in the upper left corner of the visitor lobby.

Prison Break

You'll be back in the realm of the dead, inside the detention center. Use your new teammate on the heavy-duty security door on the left to enter deeper into the facility.

Ignore the male/female locker rooms for now, and head into the hallway to the left. Use your new teammate to enter the first door you see on your left, leading to the janitorial closet.

Remember that you'll need to Use your new teammate on any doors to go through them while you are in the spirit realm! Just to be on the safe side, try to avoid interacting with any objects (except the shiny ones) while you are still in the spirit realm.

Interact with the shiny metal bucket to return to the living (normal) world. Grab the dirty rag from the sink, and the spray lubricant near the door. Do NOT leave the room for the time being. Instead, return to the spirit realm by interacting with the shiny metal bucket again.

Leave the janitorial closet, and return to the entrance hallway with the male and female locker rooms.

Enter the male locker room and head right, interacting with the mirror to return to the living world. Make sure you are hiding behind the locker, and Use the dirty rag on the sink. Then interact with the sink to make it overflow with water.

The off-duty officer here will be forced to leave the room; wait until he does so, then grab the prison guard uniform trousers off the bench. Leave the male locker room (you should still be in the living world).

Enter the female locker room. Do NOT attempt to interact with the off-duty guard near the mirror. Use the spray lubricant on the rusty locker door. Interact with it, then grab the prison guard uniform shirt inside.

Leave the female locker room, and go inside the male locker room. Interact with the mirror to return to the spirit realm.

Leave the male locker room and enter the hallway to the left. Continue left (past the janitorial closet you entered earlier) to reach the cell at the far left. Use your new teammate to help enter it.

Interact with the mirror inside the cell to return to the living world, triggering a conversation with Kevin. During the conversation, get Kevin to agree to lure the on-duty guard in the hallway over to his cell when you return to the spirit realm.

Interact with the mirror to return to the spirit realm, and leave Kevin's cell. You should see the shadow of the on-duty guard walk over to Kevin's cell. Return right and enter the door to the janitorial closet. Interact with the shiny metal bucket to return to the living (normal) world.

Leave the janitorial closet, but do NOT return to Kevin's cell. Instead, Use the remaining dose of hibiscus rue on the nearby cup of coffee. Quickly go back inside the janitorial closet. When you hear the loud noise, go back outside.

Now you can grab the key to Kevin's cell and the NYPD officer's cap off the sleeping guard.

Before returning to Kevin in his cell, you should have the following three Key Items:

• NYPD officer cap
• Prison guard uniform shirt
• Prison guard uniform trousers

Refer back to the guide if you are still missing one or more of them. Otherwise, return to the Kevin's cell and Use the cell key on the door.

After the conversation, Kevin will request a disguise to be able to escape the detention center. Simply Use all three guard uniform Key Items you should already have on Kevin.

Kevin will now be able to escape on his own. Return the male locker room and Interact with the mirror to return to the spirit realm.

Leave the locker room and exit back to the detention center lobby. Then leave the detention center altogether via the front doors! You will automatically return to the living world in the process.

If you did not Interact with any objects (without the help of your new teammate) while in the spirit realm this whole time, you should unlock the Unchided Trophy/Achievement at this point!

Pushing Your Luck

Return to the Dragon Tree Restaurant. After a conversation with Kevin, head up the rooftop.

After another conversation with Kevin in the Huang residence living room, make a clean save at this point if you want to unlock multiple Achievements.

You will meet the void creature again, and after another conversation you will be presented with a number of choices tied to different Achievements.

Allowing Kevin to go through with his request will unlock the Dragon slayer Achievement!

Out of Body Experience

If this is the second of three missions that you have completed since the events in Central Park, you will automatically trigger a new event that begins at the Unavowed Headquarters. Make whatever choices you wish during all conversations here.

Once your character is on the subway, click on each teammate and attempt as many dialogue choices with them as possible, leaving Logan for last. After attempting to speak with Logan multiple times, the event will continue.

When you regain control of your character at Unavowed Headquarters, return to the study for more dialogue. Again, your dialogue choices here won't affect any story, but you will have the option of entering a new name for your character if desired.
